Volcanoes National Park a conservation area covering the Rwandan part of the Virunga Mountains that extend to the protected areas of Uganda and the democratic republic of Congo. It is home to the famous mountain gorilla and troops of golden monkey’s, the park hosts habituated mountain gorillas that probably are the best thing to see on a visit to the national park, Mountain gorilla view lodge lies on the foot hills of mount Sabinyo having beautiful views.

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

The mountain gorilla view lodge offers best accommodation to travelers that come to adventure volcanoes national park specially for mountain gorillas (gorilla beringeiberingei) and Rwanda as a whole taking approximately 15minutes drive to the starting point of trekking, the lodge has undergone multiple changes over the past few years including the construction of new cottages and addition of an external door at the end of the main building. The lodge was eco-constructed from local available material that included stone and thatch to display the African culture, the compound is well maintained with great environment to enjoy the wonderful views of the angelic volcanoes, the 30 individual chalets are well placed with privacy, large on the inside with elegant furniture an en-suite bathroom and each of them constructed with an inbuilt fireplace.

The main lodge is composed of a bar, restaurant, and the lounge area that is divided into three sitting areas, the restaurant serves both local and international dishes prepared by an experienced chef, a well-stocked bar with a variety of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic while at the restaurant you will have beautiful views of the park as you enjoy the beauty of the park. The lodge supports the local community by buying fresh farm products for use at the lodge. One can participate in different activities that include gorilla tracking, mountain gorillas are a critically endangered species of primates they live in high land areas feed on roots, leaves and bamboo of the forest they have been habituated for visitors to track, tracking troops of golden monkeys, nature walks and bird watching the park exhibits more than 165 species of birds 17 of which are endemic to the area for example the dusky crimson wing, collared apalis, Rwenzori double collared sunbird among others, nature walks to the foot hills of mountain Sabinyo and around the park.

Mountain gorilla lodge covers about 4 acres of attractive land scape on the slopes of mountain Sabinyo conveniently placed on Rwanda’s key attractions like Musanze caves, Rwandan genocide, mountain gorillas, Dian Fossey’s grave site an American zoologist who used the park as a research center and was determined to protect and conserve the mountain gorillas.

The park is accessible all year round but best during the dry months of December to February, June to mid-September when the weather is best favorable for tracking, it’s advisable to book gorilla permits in advance prior to arrival, bring warm clothes especially for the evenings it really gets cold, boots for hikes, insect repellants, water proof covers for phones and cameras best recommendable package while coming to Rwanda.
